There's a history about this Kadamaian River and Minitinduk Gorge - Sir Hugh Low "walked" through this places to ascend Mount Kinabalu in 1851. In 1851, Sir Hugh Low ascended Mount Kinabalu and until recently, the trail he and his native entourage took was a holy trail. The Kadazandusun people believe this is still the holy trail for the spirits of the dead to go to their final resting place, the Mount Kinabalu, and this Minitinduk Gorge is the gate. Even though Sir Hugh Low didn't reach the summit, the highest peak was named after him by another British, Sir John Whitehead whom actually was the first european to set foot on the summit, in 1888. The first woman to set foot on Low's Peak was Lillian Gibbs in 1910. The trail today that tourists take to reach the summit is not nearly the same. It was "founded" in 1924 by R.F. Evan and Sarel. The trail starts from the Tinompok ridge through the Timpohon Pass. But no one was sure where exactly the original or ancient trail to the mountain was, used by the early explorers. After months of research conducted by 3 Sabah Society members, going through journals written by the early explorers, there were mentions of these geographical features along their journeys; 1.Start from a village called Kiau 2.Along cascading river 3.An overhanging rock 4.Passing through a gorge 5.A tall cascading waterfall 6.A much larger overhanging rock 7.Mountain swamp
